We are a two practice partnership, in the Test Valley, on the outskirts of Basingstoke. This is within easy distance of both London and the South Coast.

Overton Practice

Overton is an old mill town approximately 8 miles from Basingstoke. It has relatively stable population - with several families of more than three generations.

List size: Overton 5600; Oakley 4900 Slightly higher than average % elderly.

Practice Team:

• Practice Manager, Surgery Administrators and Receptionists.
• Practice Nurses who run Asthma Travel, Family Planning and Diabetic Clinics.
• District Nurses, Health Visitor, Midwife.
• Visiting Chiropodist, Orthoptist and Speech Therapist.

We are also an NHS Research and Development practice with Dr Coppin involved in this, and we participate in some MRC trials.

Training

Both Dr Lorge and Dr Lindsay are Trainers. You would have a nominated trainer but all practice staff are involved.

In your first few weeks we hope you would sit in on surgeries with all doctors and nurses etc. Perhaps spending a few hours in reception to see how everything works. When you feel able we start your consultations at 15-20 minutes, reducing to 10 minutes when you feel ready. The partners have 10 minute consultations.

Tutorials are in protected time - and all partners are happy to discuss and problems both during and after surgery. The Registrars attend Winchester day release course - 30 days per year. Other courses are often needed to complete Child Surveillance etc and these can often be found locally.

We would hope that you will see a complete range of medicine both acute and chronic, having a chance to follow patients throughout your year - Diabetics, Hypertensives, Ante Natal and terminal care.

We will also occasionally have a Pre Registration House Officer here for 4 months as part of their House Jobs.
