We are a six-man partnership consisting of four full time partners and two half time partners. We also employ two part time doctors on the retainer scheme.

Town-centre based, we work from a purpose-designed surgery which we converted ourselves in 1996 and cover patients in both Basingstoke and the outlying villages. Our list size is approx. 12,500 and provides a cross-section of Basingstoke citizens.

We are computerised and offer a full range of General Practice services. Our out-of-hours cover is provided by HantsDoc, the local co-op, of which we are all members. HantsDoc is based at the local hospital.

We run personalised lists and work closely in conjunction with the Primary Care Team, including District Nurses, Health Visitors, Midwives and Social Workers. Regular team meetings occur.

Our excellent local hospital is a few miles away on the edge of Basingstoke and provides most medical services. Visiting consultants from Southampton provide more specialised services such as Neurology and Oncology. A weekly postgraduate meeting is held at the hospital and there are good links between General Practice and hospital practitioners.

We are a training practice. Three partners are GP trainers and a fourth is a Family Planning trainer. We are a recognised site for Family Planning and training. We are involved in Registrar training and regularly have 4th year medical students from the University of Southampton. We are also involved in training of pre-registration House Officers. Our nursing staff are also involved in the training of nurses from the local hospital. Having been first-wave fundholders, we are now involved in the local Primary Care Group. We were a pilot practice for nurse prescribing.

Although Registrars are supervised by one named trainer, we regard training as a practice responsibility and all the GPs are involved with the Registrar. Regular tutorials are held with trainers and other partners, in addition to ad hoc training. Registrars attend the Winchester based day release course on a Wednesday and are encouraged to sit in on clinics at the hospital and with paramedical and alternative practitioners in their spare hours.

We have a pharmacy on site and a consulting room, which we rent out on a private basis to other practitioners, including counsellors, chiropodists, an osteopath and an aromatherapist.

Basingstoke grew from a small market town and is now a large modern metropolis, famous for its many roundabouts! There are excellent transport links to London and the South Coast. The town has a good shopping centre, international concert hall, a theatre, multi-screen cinema and other excellent leisure facilities. Outside the town are many pretty small villages and historic sites.

Registrar vacancies
