Our practice manager is Mr Desmond McCarthy.
The Health Centre was built some 24 years ago and is co-tenanted by a dental surgery and Community staff of the Loddon NHS Trust. Five full-time and one part-time doctors are assisted by four Practice Nurses, five District Nurses, five Health Visitors, a physiotherapist, chiropodist, speech therapist, social worker, dietician and a midwife, supported by the Surgery Manager and her staff of fourteen. There are 12,000 registered patients.
We will shortly be extensively refurbishing the accommodation to provide a thoroughly modern facility for the benefit of our patients, staff and doctors alike. The surgery has been paperless since January 1999.
The Practice began here some thirty years ago in an end of terrace house at 135 Worting Road, about a half mile from the town centre. Owned by the Partners, three extensions have been added to the surgery, now called 'Overbridge Surgery'. The latest building work was completed in July 1994, incorporating the ground floor of the next door property, and including a complete refurbishment and modernisation.
There are five consulting suites, a general purposes room for physiotherapy, chiropody and midwifery, a good sized treatment Room suite including a minor surgery room and Nurses' office, a private interview room for health visitors and social worker and adequate reception and administrative offices.
Three full-time and one part-time doctors, two Practice Nurses, two District Nurses, two Health Visitors, a physiotherapist, chiropodist and a midwife provide general medical and Community Services, supported by the Surgery manager's team of ten clerical and administrative staff, for the Surgery's 8,000 registered patients.
Each partner has their own patient list, and patients are encouraged to see their own doctor whenever possible. All surgeries are by appointment, and urgent cases are seen on the same day. The doctors do some telephone advice and triage during each surgery. The partners choose their consulting rates which average out at 7 minutes.
The Practice is fully computerised using Torex Health's System 5 as its clinical system, making full use of Registration and Items Of Service Links. It is intended to ultimately upgrade to System 6000 and a full Microsoft Windows network has recently been installed which providing intranet and file sharing services plus scanned copies of all clinical correspondence to doctors' desks. We have Internet access and Practice external email communications.
We will shortly connect to the NHS Net which will give access to networked secure Internet services. Both of our surgery sites are linked via landline in an integrated system consisting of 20 terminals and printers. Additionally, there are an ever growing number of PC workstations used for clinical, management, administration and accounting purposes. One senior computer operator is responsible for systems administration, under the supervision of the Practice Manager.
From 1st August 2004.
